Everyday care
Vaccinations
Bringing your pet in for vaccinations at their annual exam is one of the most important steps you can take for their health, and one of the least expensive treatments with the largest return.

Our approach
No single protocol meets the needs of every pet.
Our vaccination protocols are tailored to your pet’s activities, lifestyle and risk of exposure to disease. The vaccinations we suggest follow the recommendations of the AVMA and the AAHA, as well as state laws.
A few are considered core vaccinations that all pets should have. The rest are based on the risks that come with your pet’s lifestyle. We’re always happy to talk through any concerns, and we’ll work with you to choose a protocol that addresses them and gives your pet the best protection.

At the annual exam
Protection beyond vaccines.
When we give vaccinations at your pet’s annual exam, we’ll also recommend flea and tick preventatives that suit your pet, your philosophy and your family, along with options to keep your pet safe from heartworm and other diseases and parasitic infections.
We stock some preventatives in the hospital and have access to many others through our Online Store.
Are vaccinations really worth it?
Yes. Bringing your pet in for vaccinations at their annual exam is one of the most important steps you can take for their health, and one of the least expensive treatments with the largest return.
Does my pet need every vaccine you offer?
Not necessarily. No single protocol meets the needs of every pet. A few core vaccinations are recommended for all pets, and the rest depend on the risks that come with your pet’s lifestyle.
Is the rabies vaccine required?
Yes. Rabies vaccination is required for dogs and cats under Maryland law, and we offer it for both.
Which vaccines do you offer for dogs and cats?
For dogs: rabies, DHLPP (a canine distemper combination), leptospirosis (given on its own), Lyme, influenza (covering both strains) and Bordetella (intranasal or injectable).
For cats: rabies, FVRCP (a feline distemper combination) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV).
I have concerns about vaccinating. Can we talk about them?
Of course. We tailor each protocol to your pet’s activities, lifestyle and risk of exposure, following the recommendations of the AVMA and the AAHA as well as state law. We’ll work with you to choose a protocol that addresses your concerns and still gives your pet the best protection.
Will you also talk about flea, tick and heartworm protection?
Yes. When we give vaccinations at the annual exam, we also recommend flea and tick preventatives and heartworm options that suit your pet, your philosophy and your family. We stock some in the hospital, and many more are available through our Online Store.
